In 2020, our society "Saving Endangered Wildlife" donated € 10,000 to the non-profit organisation "Friends of Hwange" in Zimbabwe. In January 2021, €5,000 was donated again, in August 2021 €10,000 and in December 2021 €15,000. Thanks to a donation from Mrs Bettina Schneider in October, another €4,000 was added.
The Hwange is a national park the size of Belgium in the east of the Kalahari (and correspondingly dry).
Why did the donation go to this organisation?
Because we know that the members of this association
- work very effectively, as almost all the work is done on a voluntary basis
- the active members (above all Dave Dell) have a great deal of expertise in the field of nature and wildlife conservation.
- are very committed to the fight against poaching by supporting Anti Poaching Units (e.g. to ensure that no elephant ever loses its leg in a snare again)
- supporting the local population to reduce the pressure to poach
- donate large quantities of medicines to local hospitals
- cooperate well with the state authorities and the private lodges, which have their own areas within the national park, and can thus operate across the board.
- are not corrupt, so that our donations are well targeted.
- build and maintain wells in the dry park so that the animals do not die of thirst
provide veterinary care for injured animals - Further information can be found here:
